Low Libido vs Erectile Dysfunction: What’s the Difference, And What Can You Do?

Feel Like Your Sex Drive Has Disappeared?

If you've ever thought:

“I want sex, but my body isn’t responding”
or
“I don’t even think about sex anymore”

You’re not alone.

Men often mix up low libido and erectile dysfunction (ED). They get treated like the same thing, but they’re not. And if you don’t know which one you’re dealing with, you could be trying to fix the wrong problem.

This blog will help you spot the difference, and give you a real plan to turn things around.

What’s the Difference?

🔹 Low Libido = You don’t feel like it

Libido is your interest or desire for sex. When it drops, it feels like you’ve lost your spark.

You might notice:

  • Less (or no) interest in sex

  • Avoiding intimacy even when you’ve got time

  • Struggling to fantasise or feel aroused

It can come from:

  • Low testosterone

  • Stress or burnout

  • Poor sleep

  • Emotional issues or relationship tension

  • Lifestyle factors like alcohol, processed food, or no movement

🔹 Erectile Dysfunction = You feel like it, but can’t perform

ED is when you want sex, but your body doesn’t follow through.

You might:

  • Lose an erection midway

  • Struggle to get hard, even when turned on

  • Rely on a very specific scenario or mental trick to make it happen

It usually comes from:

  • Poor blood flow

  • Vascular ageing

  • Weak pelvic floor muscles

  • Stress and performance pressure

  • Early signs of heart or metabolic issues

You can have ED without low libido, or low libido without ED, or both. But each one needs a different solution.

Step 1: Track What’s Really Going On

This is a small but powerful habit.

📔 Start a simple daily tracker. Note:

  • Did you get a morning erection? (Yes/No – and how strong?)

  • Were you interested in sex today?

  • What was your sleep like?

  • Stress levels, alcohol, diet, or exercise?

After a week or two, patterns usually appear. Maybe libido is low after poor sleep. Or erections are fine on gym days but not after a night out.

Step 2: Check Your Testosterone (and Other Markers)

Low libido often points to hormone imbalance, especially after 40.

If you haven’t had a blood test in the last 12 months, now’s the time. Look at:

  • Total testosterone

  • Free testosterone

  • SHBG (affects how much testosterone is available)

  • Vitamin D (linked to hormone regulation)

  • Cortisol (too much can crush your libido)

If you’re “in range” but still feel off, that’s worth exploring. You’re not a number, you’re a person with symptoms that deserve attention.

Step 3: Audit Your Daily Habits

Be honest. Most of the men we work with aren’t doing anything “wrong,” they’re just stuck in modern routines that slowly chip away at sexual health.

Here’s what to look at:

Step 4: Boost Libido and Blood Flow the Natural Way

Here are some proven, practical changes:

💪 Move your body

Strength training boosts testosterone. Start with:

  • Bodyweight squats

  • Pushups

  • Light dumbbell circuits
2–3 times a week is enough to see results.

🍳 Eat to fuel your hormones

Focus on:

  • Protein (eggs, lean meat, fish)

  • Healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts)

  • Greens and nitric oxide boosters (beetroot, spinach, pomegranate)

🌿 Support your nervous system

Erection and arousal require relaxation.
Try:

  • Diaphragmatic breathing

  • Cold showers

  • Reducing phone use in the evenings

Step 5: Check Your Morning Erections

Morning wood is one of the best indicators of physical performance.

  • Still getting it regularly? Your system is probably working, but you may have a libido or stress issue.

  • Gone or weaker? This might point to vascular ED, low testosterone, or early cardiovascular changes.

Either way, it's a useful marker to track.

What If It’s Both?

That’s common, and fixable.
At the Men’s Room, we take a whole-body approach that combines:

  • Shockwave therapy to improve blood flow

  • Pelvic floor rehab for better control

  • Hormonal insight to understand libido

  • Lifestyle coaching to rebuild energy, strength, and confidence

This isn’t about getting a prescription. It’s about getting your life back.
